Hot Tub Maintenance

Over time, Scum lines, scale lines, and mineral deposits can build at the waterline on your spas surface. This provides an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and algae. We recommend you clean your hot tub every 2 or 3 weeks. To remove these lines easily and prevent them appearing follow these steps below.

Why is it Important to Maintain your Hot Tub or Spa?

1. Clean your filters every 3 days

At least few days you should take your hot tub filter out of your tub and rinse them thoroughly with your garden hose or in the laundry tub. DO NOT hose down your hot tub filters at the local car wash, this will shorten the life of the filter.  And about every month you should spray them down with a hot tub filter degreaser or cleaner. You could also put them in a bucket of half water and half liquid chlorine and let stand for about a day or so.  Always rinse off the hot tub filters whenever cleaning them.

2. Keep an Eye On Your Hot Tub Chemistry

An obvious tip to most but there are some people who do not know about hot tub chemistry. In fact it is more important than you think. Think of your hot tub  like your home's bathtub. And image keeping that bathtub filled all the time with the same water and everyone of your friends and family used it every day. Gross right? Well a hot tub is basically the same thing so it's very important to sanitize your hot tub a few times a week. And keeping your pH and alkalinity balanced will even help prolong the life of your hot tub's heater and other very important equipment.

3. The Hot Tub Cover

It will keep unwanted debris out of your hot tub and also keep the heat in, which will save on your electric bill and it will keep young children out and safe. And if needed, you could buy a hot tub cover lifter to help you pull the cover on and off.

4. Know Your Equipment

Make sure you fully understand how your hot tub works so that during the life of the hot tub you will be able to run it properly and know when something is wrong. Some hot tub's give off warning signals if something is wrong.  Be aware of these warning signals and be aware of where your GFI is and any other shut-off for the hot tub.

5. Drain, Clean And Refill Your Spa Ever 2 Months

Remember the whole bathtub thing? Always keep a very close eye on your hot tub chemicals.  If your unsure about the chemicals, call your local hot tub company and they will help.  Also,  because the chemicals can build up in your  hot tub causing you to have high levels of TDS (total dissolved solids) which can cause scaling in your pipes and heater, which in turn causes you to run your pump more to keep it heated.

6. Open the Hot tub Cover

Not opening the hot tub cover for long periods of time can cause damage to the underside of the cover.  This is called........a chemical burn.  Not opening the cover to "breathe" can cause the PH to become very high and damage many different parts of the hot tub.  This is the most important hot tub service or maintenance you could do to help prolong the life of your hot tub.  Maintaining your hot tub is not a very big job............if you still feel that it's too much to handle and would like the hot tub service and maintenance done by us. Call us and we will be more then happy to do the service for you.  (705) 229-6157.
